For the final leg of our Croatia trip we ferried it back to Split, where we spent three nights at Fabio Residence. Situated in Old Town, a few streets back from the main square and promenade, it was a bit of a challenge to find but once there we realised the benefits: quiet, secluded and the opportunity to gain an insight into local life.
The owner, Maja, greeted us and showed us our cute, modern room which she had kitted out with fresh fruit, quality coffee and tea making facilities. She also had a wealth of knowledge and informed us on two of her favourites restaurants in Split - which turned out to be our favourites too - where to go to find the best beaches (our favourite was Kasuni beach, pictured above) and directions to a local bakery just around the corner.
One whisper of pastries and croissants and I was sold so the next morning we ventured off to find said bakery and were delighted to discover that two giant croissants and two huge, custard-filled doughnuts only cost us £1.60 - yes we had two each, don't judge us! Partner this with the Nespresso coffee in our room and we'd had quite the tasty and purse-friendly (albeit not too healthy) breakfast.
As we'd been finding with a few of the bathrooms in Croatia - I'm still trying to forget the glass-doored toilet in Hvar – this one was a bit odd, with a glass sliding door that didn't completely shut and a shower that had to be held when using. However, all the other positives, including the very comfy bed, more than made up for this. And for £22 a night (each) you can't really go wrong!Labels: Croatia, Europe, Travel
